FOURTH UPDATE (Oct. 12, 2023): In light of recent events in Israel, Chai Lifeline has made the difficult decision to postpone Over the Edge, 2023. I look forward to participating in this joyful event in 2024. Thanks to each and every one of you who have helped me raise over $7,200 for Chai Lifeline Canada. Lots of love, take care of each other.

THIRD UPDATE: It's hard to wrap my head around that in FOUR DAYS $6,333 has been raised for Chai Lifeline!! The support, by way of messages and donations, has been absolutely incredible and so appreciated. I am blown away by everyone's generosity and love. Thank you!

--------
On October 15th I will be participating in Chai Lifeline’s “Over the Edge for Chai”, a fundraiser where I will be repelling down 29 stories from the roof of Hotel X in downtown Toronto 😬. While I am no stranger to a ladder, this is certainly well out of my comfort zone.

Chai Lifeline is an incredible non-profit which helps children and their families better cope with childhood illness. My family has experienced first hand the generosity that Chai Lifeline provides.

In the spring of 2021, Emmett was recovering from his first surgery and his surgeon recommended that we get him into a pool as often as possible to help with his rehabilitation. Emmett spent nearly two months in a body cast, and swimming would help regain his strength.

Due to the pandemic, SickKids therapy pools were closed, as were all swim schools, condo and community pools we had access to. Therapy pools and in-home swim schools didn’t allow a parent in the pool. Even a neighbour with an indoor pool was in the middle of renovations and couldn’t help us. I felt like I had exhausted every avenue.

A friend of the family (thanks, Alan!) suggested I reach out to Chai Lifeline. Within 10 minutes I had a response by the director, “we have access to pools. How many times a week would you need, and do you need it to be wheelchair accessible?” I cried. A complete stranger gave us access to their indoor pool twice a week for months so that Emmett could do his exercises and have some fun.

The staff at Chai Lifeline were so empathetic and eager to help. They consistently checked in to make sure the pool set up and schedule worked for us, and continued checking in even after his recovery, to see if they could help in any way.

I am so grateful to Chai Lifeline for their ability to help my kid when I felt like I couldn’t. I am so grateful for how easy they made receiving help. Our SickKids journey is far from over, and I’m so grateful to have Chai Lifeline as a resource in case we need it again.

I have committed to raising $1800 in support of Chai Lifeline for the incredible work they do. Donations in any amount are appreciated and are eligible for a tax receipt (US tax receipts are also available).

Thank you for getting this far in my email and for your support. There may be a livestream link to this event, so you can all watch me have a panic attack in the comfort of your own homes 👍.

Wishing all those who are celebrating a happy, healthy, and sweet new year. May we all be inscribed in the book of Life.

With love and gratitude,
Marla
